The authentic calligraphy experience in Osaka.
Are you interested in trying calligraphy in a Japanese-style house in Osaka?
Write your favorite words or kanji on calligraphy Hanshi paper using black ink and a brush. Hanshi paper is a paper that is made from pulp in Japan and is a traditional type of paper. Hanshi is not glossy or smooth like Western paper, but it's still thin, strong, and durable. The way Hanshi absorbs the ink will determine the unique character of the finished work, depending on the speed of your brush movement and the amount of ink used.
During the class, you will freely write Japanese kanji and words without restrictions for as long as you have time.
In the end, you'll pick the word that you love the most and create a masterpiece.

Calm Your Mind Through the Art of Calligraphy.
With us, you can also try writing on large paper (Jyoufuku), which you cannot experience in most of other calligraphy classes. Here too, the teacher will support your free expression. Whether you want to write vertically or horizontally, it's all up to what strikes your mood. Let your artistic side run wild!
Writing characters in black on a white background and being able to concentrate for a short time can help calm your mind. If you feel like you've been a little over-active during your trip to Japan, try this out as a way to unwind.
Calligraphy can be therapeutic as well.
Discover Traditional Calligraphy Near Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine.
Ginshoshoin is easily accessible, about 15 minutes by tram from Tennoji Station in Osaka, and about 15 minutes from the Nankai line from Namba Station.
The classroom is in a traditional Japanese house, so you can experience the "nostalgic Japan" that you can't get at a hotel. The famous Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine is nearby, so we recommend visiting it before or after class.
So, if you're interested, please apply using the form. We look forward to meeting you.

“We loved learning calligraphy – thank you both for being such kind, patient and thoughtful teachers. It is a beautiful art form and we both improved so much in the short time we were here – we will always remember to count one, two! in the future! (we have also learnt that Jake needs to work on his flexibility to be able to sit on cushions…!) This has been a wonderful end to our time in Japan.(o^―^o)”
“Thank you again so much for such a great afternoon. We both loved the class and it was wonderful to meet you and your mum - you made it such a lovely experience. Thank you for your generous hospitality (the green tea and the sweets were a lovely unexpected surprise!) and for helping us to learn calligraphy - we were just discussing where to put our masterpieces up in our flat when we get home!”

"This experience was more than learning an art form; it was a quiet reflection on appreciation, presence, and peace.-Calligraphy in Osaka
I’d love to share a wonderful review today from a participant who visited us all the way from the United States♡
Japanese Calligraphy Experience — 自愛 (Self Love)
Today I had the honor of being welcomed into a kind woman’s home for a private, 1:1 Japanese calligraphy lesson. She greeted me with tea and delicate seasonal treats, creating an atmosphere that felt calm, sacred, and beautifully personal.
As I practiced each stroke, I was reminded that calligraphy isn’t just about writing — it’s about intention, patience, and the energy we bring into each moment. I chose to write 自愛 (Jiai), which means self love — a message I continue to carry in my own journey.
This experience was more than learning an art form; it was a quiet reflection on appreciation, presence, and peace."

"Experiencing calligraphy with Murakami-san is nothing short of extraordinary. Set in an authentic and welcoming home environment, this session offers an immersive dive into the art and soul of Japanese calligraphy. The intensity of the experience is beautifully balanced by the warmth of Murakami-san’s guidance and the serene atmosphere.
What makes this session stand out is the opportunity to create your own piece of art. Under Murakami-san’s subtle yet enthusiastic teaching style, where advice is often given non-verbally, you truly grasp the essence of calligraphy—its fluidity, individuality, and power of expression. The practice proves that each piece of calligraphy is uniquely personal, a reflection of the artist’s spirit.
Adding to the charm of the experience, you’re treated to traditional Japanese tea and sweets, which provide a perfect pause for reflection and relaxation.
Murakami-san is a master teacher, whose passion and expertise shine through in every gesture and smile. If you’re looking for an authentic, hands-on, and deeply meaningful cultural experience, this calligraphy session is an absolute must. M"
